Description

Last year Pastor Mark ran a sermon series Intentionally Relational, Pentacostal, Theological.

This group continues the thrust of the Theological, wrestling with issues of Christian doctrine and historical development. The whole idea relates to what we believe and why we believe it, so our goal is to help folk clarify the content of faith and in so doing, strengthen it.

Some of the kinds of issues we have worked through, and will continue to work through include:

Who are the "great" Christians and why do we consider them great?

What do we believe as Christians, Protestants, Evangelicals and Foursquare Pentacostals?

What do more traditional groups like Catholics, Orthodox and Anglicans believe, and how do they use and interpret the bible, and what justification do they have for additional authorities (like Holy Tradition in the case of Catholics and Orthodox)

What do we make of the doctrine of the Trinity and the dual Natures of Christ?

What trends do we see in American Christian expression and what do we think of these - megachurches, prosperity gospel etc?

We challenge ourselves through exposure to video presentations. We also take occasional field trips - everything from participation in a Catholic or Orthodox mass, to a Holy Spirit renewal weekend, to experiencing a megachurch.

We are searching for answers to the questions, who is my brother/sister in the faith, who do I identify with in the history of Jesus' movement, and what are the implications of our practices for apologetics and evangelism (1 Pet 3:15).

This semester, we will start out studying http://www.thegreatcourses.com/tgc/courses/course_detail.aspx?cid=625 but we may change this, since there are some exciting new video materials becoming available in September - stay tuned for details
